京都で唯一、ご本尊が弁財天（サラスワティー）というめずらしいお寺なのだそう。
なんとなく、「これどうやって紹介するかなぁ」と思って後回しにしていた。京都観光Naviでも「御守とおみくじが有名」としか書いてない。
この町のメインスポットなので、案内もけっこうある。

寺ですってかんじなのですが、ここのサラスワティーさんは遊女の技芸上達の神としても信仰を集めたそうです。遊郭のあった街なので。脇仏は裸形弁財天。色っぽいお寺です。
真言宗のお寺なので空海さんもいらっしゃるのですが、ここには、なんというか、居て欲しくなかったなぁ的な気持ちが……
お守りが有名なお寺なのですが
女陰のね。
おみくじも有名らしいんですが、なんとも……。
「ナウい」はアリだけど、「ナウーイ」はナシみたいなそんな基準で、やりませんでした。
外国人向けの説明もありました。まあ、寺へ来て日本人がこんなもの作って売ってる思ったら、おもしろいだろうね。「日本人はね、ムッツリなんですよ」って英語で説明できないなぁ。
インド人だったら、インドはリンガ（男根）をお守りにするけど、日本はこういうのをコインにするのかぁ。と言うかな。
せっかくなので、紹介します。
Chokenji and the Takaragai Amulet
Chokenji Temple was built in 1699, and belongs to the Singon Sect of Buddhism founded by Kobo Daishi(Kukai). It is the only temple in Kyoto dedicated to the Goddess Benzaiten.
Benzaiten is the sole female deity amongst the Seven Lucky Gods, and is revered as the patron saint of arts and music. For this reason, many artists and musicians will pray at Chokenji so that Benzaiten will bless them with creativity and prosperity.The Takaragai ("Cowrie Shell") amulet is the symbol of Benzaiten. It is shaped like a Japanese coin with a prayer on one side, and an image modeled after the female anatomy on the other. It is believed that if you keep this amulet with you, it will "give birth" to fortune and prosperity in your life. This only amulet of its kind in Japan, and can only be purchased from Chokenji Temple in Chushojima.
The Takaragai first gained popularity during the Edo Period(1603-1867), when many people traveled on the Tokaido road that passed through Fushimi leading to Tokyo.
"give birth" いうても、結婚した友達にあげたらドン引かれそうだったので、結婚しそうなお友達や、そろそろ結婚してもいいかもね的なお友達にあげました。
初婚になる友達にあげてもドン引かれそうだったので、経験豊富なお友達にあげました。
いいことをしたような気持ちになりました。
